Local Interaction

I really like the open directory concept, but I really that it takes them too long to add new links to the directory. I was wondering why they do not just allow people to create links and then just allow the community to manage the edits the same way that Wikipedia does.

I decided to create a wiki version of the open directory project, just to see how it would work. You can find this version at the following Our Open Links URL, or http://www.ouropenlinks.com. I decided to not advertise the web site, and just let people find it on their own. Of course the first people to find it were Spammers, which I guess should not have come as a surprise. I then enabled captchas to cut down on the Spam, and now it looks like a few legitimate users are the only ones making changes.

It will be interesting to see if more legitimate users continue to make changes. If this works out well, I will send the deltas between the user edited version and the main project to DMOZ to see what they think.
